High Latitude Sailing Techniques Course

We have developed the world's only course that will help prepare owners, captains & crew considering venturing in to these waters. The two day shore-based course covers all the key aspects of high latitude cruising including:

  • Weather
  • Yacht design & modification
  • Permitting & regulations
  • Anchoring
  • Ice
  • Journey planning
  • Heavy weather
  • Safety & emergencies

Destinations covered include Antarctica, South Georgia, Patagonia & Cape Horn, Greenland, Svalbard, and Arctic Canada.

Delivered by High Latitudes’ directors, Richard Haworth & Luke Milner, the course is highly interactive with a blend of presentations, discussion and group exercises. Having sailed many thousands of miles in remote seas and having spent countless nights in icy anchorages, the course is an opportunity to gain from this experience and learn from our mistakes. Most importantly delegates will have the chance to ask all the questions they have on high latitude yachting. Whilst of obvious interest to those considering an expedition to the higher latitudes, the course will also be of great value to any professional or amateur sailors with an interest in cruising remoter destinations or looking to expand their knowledge.

Courses will run regularly throughout the year, at locations chosen to suit the majority of delegates.  See the course details page for current dates.  Cost for the course is £395 (inc. VAT) per delegate, including lunch, tea & coffee on both days.  Local accommodation options can be found in the course details.
